In a video uploaded to YouTube just recently, user OniZombie has managed to finish Dying Light 2 in just under three hours and 40 minutes, while another YouTuber, Dot Dot, streamed the game a day ago and managed to get to the end in less than five hours. Given that the game only came out on February 4, literally just before the weekend, it shows the amazing amount of effort that some people are willing to put into something in order to speedrun a game to set new records. At the time of writing, it looks like OniZombie may hold the world record for now.

Some people reading may be thinking that the times mentioned don’t seem that impressive. However, given that the developer, Techland, has said that Dying Light 2 boasts 500 hours of gameplay, even if just taking into account the main storyline, three hours and 40 minutes is still a mightily impressive feat, especially considering how new the game actually is.
Anyone who is interested in challenging themselves in a similar will find that there are plenty of games that new speedrunners can attempt. While starting out, some may be tempted to begin with smaller games, but eventually, many will reach for the much loftier titles, showing not only impressive skills, but savant levels of knowledge that can only come from hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of practice and dedication.
As for the game itself, Dying Light 2 has received mixed reviews, with some praising the parkour mechanics, pushing the system into better territories since the first game came out in 2015. It was, however, considered quite glitchy, with the studio itself encouraging people to wait for the Day One patch before playing it. Regardless of critical reception, it evidently doesn’t seem to have deterred the speedrunning community, and no doubt more records will be set, and broken, in the near future.
Dying Light 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
