No matter the title, Platinum Games has always maintained a standard of polish when it comes to its titles, as evidenced by games such as the long-awaited Bayonetta 3, and the high octane action found in its recent gameplay trailer. Platinum always leaves players coming back for more, and Inaba plans to keep that process going moving forward into the new year.

In an interview with Famistu, Inaba took time to discuss a variety of new developments going on at PlatinumGames, from the projects currently in the works, his position as president of the company, and things that he would like to see established at the company going forward, specifically stating that future titles would “different” from their previous works.

Throughout the interview, Inaba discusses several of Platinum’s upcoming titles for 2022, such as Sol Cresta and Babylon’s Fall, the latter of which was revealed to have ties to publisher’s Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14. However, one specific note in Inaba’s interview was when discussing the differences in upcoming titles, he said that he wants Platinum’s games to be “enjoyed and loved for a long period of time,” leading many to assume that he is referring to the “Games as a Service” model of video games.

While this specific model of game development has been criticized by some fans and players regarding its integration and overall enjoyment, with titles like Marvel’s Avengers being directly criticized for its use of the model, it’s hard not to see why Platinum would want to invest time in live service games. While Platinum’s works continue to garner acclaim and establish a large community of fans, wanting to have a game’s longevity see that same kind success is understandable.

Platinum hasn’t been without its critics and controversies, with the director of Scalebound still apologizing for the game’s cancelation, but the hope is that Inaba’s wish for longevity in Platinum’s games manages to be fulfilled in a manner that will please its player base. However, only time will tell should if this plan is successful.
