Cloudhead has released multiple updates for the game in the past year, and tomorrow, December 1, the developer will drop its most substantial to date. The new DLC will come first to PC-based VR sets and the Oculus Quest, while the PlayStation VR version of Pistol Whip will get it sometime in 2021.

Set in a “robot-plagued future” in need of an unstoppable hero, 2089 will feature a cinematic sci-fi story split across five new scenes. The expansion will maintain the base game’s “John Wick meets Superhot” gameplay loop by having players moving in a straight line while shooting enemies and dodging bullets. This time, though, they will be armed with a new futuristic pistol capable of firing four bullets with a single shot, allowing players to clear out groups of enemies with a few quick sweeps of their guns.

Something worth noting is that Cloudhead specifically describes 2089 as its “first-ever” cinematic campaign, suggesting that other story-driven updates will come to Pistol Whip down the line. What’s more, the developer already has the game’s next major update, Concierge, planned to come out this spring, but it’s unknown at this time what it will add to the game.

Pistol Whip is available for Oculus Quest, PC, and PSVR.
