Pikmin Bloom is an AR game similar to Pokemon GO, but instead of catching Pokemon, players are leading a merry band of Pikmin through the neighborhood. Before Pikmin Bloom released, all the Pikmin games were on Nintendo consoles only. The newest game in the Pikmin franchise, Pikmin Bloom is quite popular and has just reached its one-year anniversary.

To celebrate the event, the community gets to enjoy a crossover event that spotlights the popular Pikmin 3 Deluxe, which released on the Switch in 2020. The limited-time event begins on November 15th, and players will be able to enjoy it until December 9th. The event will allow players to earn unique badges featuring the three main characters from Pikmin 3, find new Koppaite Space Suit Decor Pikmin, and people who have also played Pikmin 3 can earn an Onion-style Backpack cosmetic for their avatar. The tasks to earn these rewards are spread across the event’s timeline, with the first portion being available from November 15th to November 28th, and the second being available from November 28th to December 9th.

This should be a great event for Pikmin Bloom to increase player engagement on the game’s one-year anniversary. In addition, there’s even potential for the event draw in people that play Pikmin 3, but haven’t tried out Pikmin Bloom yet. The rewards for the event, like the Decor Pikmin, also seem to be quite good, which will make a lot of players happy to engage in the event tasks and spend more time in the game.

More players would be excellent for both Niantic and Pikmin Bloom fans. If the game can keep player numbers and profits up, it’s far less likely that the game will share the fate of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The Harry Potted themed AR game made it two years before Niantic pulled the plug, most likely due to its performance relative to Pokemon GO. Assuming that Pikmin Bloom can perform well, it should be around longer than its second anniversary, and fun, reward in-game events like this one can be crucial to that performance.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin Bloom are distinctly two different genres, however, so this event might not draw in as many Pikmin 3 players as Niantic would like. What’s important though, is that current Pikmin Bloom players are happy with the event and continue to shepherd their Pikmin around.

Pikmin Bloom is available now on Android and iOS devices.
